The American Policy Player's Guide and Dream Book (1892)

Policy, also known as a numbers racket, was an illegal lottery played mostly in poor neighborhoods (black, Italian, latin)  in the US, wherein a bettor attempts to pick three digits to match those that will be randomly drawn the following day (Source). The book below--which could pass as a book on dream interpretation--has a secondary purpose. To associate winning policy numbers with the dreamer's dream. More context: see, Herbert Gladstone Parris: Professor Konje Policy Players Dream Books and Policy Pete’s Dream Book (1933) | Digital Harlem Blog.

I Dream of Barack, I Dream of Hillary

Shela Heti's contribution as a foreign correspondent (blogger) to the 2008 Democratic Primaries was to catalog the dreams people had of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton or both. Interesting for more reasons than can be said here, but a few things I enjoy in reviewing her collection of testimonies:

If one needed corroboration that pre-conscious symbols inform such computational things as voting, here is a fresh delicious whopper for you.

Also, a lovely testament to dreams. No matter how much has been said about them, it is hard to get the final word on just how odd, rich and perfect they are.

I Dream of Barack
I Dream of Hillary

126. Female Nanny From New England

In the dream, I am sitting in one of the front pews of a church. The entire congregation is expectant, waiting for something to happen. Then Hillary emerges in front of the pulpit. She is wearing a beautiful purple robe and is looking very queenly and goddess-like. An entourage of smiling people surround her and place a glittering, radiant crown on her head.

95. Librarian At A Public School In New York City

I met Barack in the West Village while he was campaigning. We made out all over the city and he was a very good kisser. His campaign staff, who were totally unphased by this, prevented Michelle and the media from finding out. Turns out Obama was quite the ladies' man. Everywhere we went, women flirted with him openly and thanked him for past good times. I was so thrilled to be with him, I didn't even feel jealous, just lucky to have had him for a day and possibly as president in the near future.
